Runner Wendy Colonno is currently registered to run in the Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge, in January, 2014. So in keeping with the theme, she is hosting a Virtual race: a 4.89 mile run commemorated with a "Just a little Dopey Medal". I signed up and ran my 4.89 miles this past Sunday. It was a great way to turn an average training run into something "just a little" more fun.
Not only did I enjoy my run, knowing that soon another piece of bling would be hanging from my medal rack (an over-the-door belt hanger that was left in our house by the last homeowners- fancy right?) but also knowing that my $25 was going to this great cause. Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and its Team in Training program engage in a variety of fundraising events throughout the year in order to continue to raise funding for research, as well as awareness of these dreadful diseases. If you've participated in a Disney, Nike or other large race you'll have seen their purple-t's and heard their chearing squad ("Go TEAM").
The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
